Who we are
We are a husband and wife team, based in the foothills of Northern Colorado. Alien Woodshop began as a hobby, with Dallas making end grain cutting boards and bottle openers. The idea of getting a CNC however, turned it into a whole lot more. This was initially a side hustle, we were both busy with our 'regular' jobs, one in cyber security, the other in nursing, and having an Etsy shop was a means to pay for the toys we used to create the items we were selling. As parents of a young child, life was busy enough. Dallas has always been the type of person who figured, if he can make it himself, why would he pay someone else for it and the CNC morphed into designing and carving replacement parts for various woodworking tools, most notably, the table saw. Our number one seller has consistently been our table saw fence indicator cursors. Woodworking continues to be a hobby for Dallas, taking over the garage during the warmer months, as he slowly replaces our cheap MDF furniture bought when we were newly married, with quality hardwood pieces that we will pass on to our son. The amount of sawdust and wood shavings that have been tracked in keep our roomba working overtime. He predominantly designs items to be carved on the CNC and is now designing for the 3D printer. He is also the one behind all of the bowls turned on the lathe.
My dream has always been to be a stay at home mom. Working as a nurse for the past 12 years, Covid brought a perspective shift. Thanksgiving of 2022 had me searching on Etsy for props for our winter visitor from the North Pole and I realized how behind I was in planning that year. The following September, while planning for our visitor's arrival, I realized that I had the perfect tool at my disposal, one that had been purchased a year earlier, but had gone virtually unused. I already knew how to design in the world of SVGs, I just needed to translate it to the world of speed rates and laser power. The creative juices started flowing and I looked to another area of my life - dogs.
I have owned German Shorthaired Pointers for over 20 years, almost a decade of that time I spent showing and competing with my dogs. I’ve never considered myself the artistic type, however attempting to capture my dogs in acrylic paint has opened up a creative vein I didn't know I possessed. I now spend a large portion of my time designing and crafting breed specific trophies as well as memorial pieces to commemorate our furry companions. I quit my nursing job in November 2023 and have taken on Alien Woodshop full time. I am responsible for the day to day running of the shop, including all laser work, processing and shipping orders, creating and maintaining our website, and handling the majority of customer inquiries.
Together, we hope to make Alien Woodshop something that will see us into retirement while also fueling our need to be creative. Hopefully you will find something you like while browsing our site.
